Rebirth and Sacred Heart

Tegucigalpa

Renaciendo (Rebirth) is a detention center home to street boys, gang members, abandoned and abused boys ages 12-18. The number of boys at this center is around 120 and they are serving time for crimes such as stealing, rape, murder, and drugs and arms trafficking. Orphan Helpers has a strong staff presence here with five male teachers who deliver evangelistic and discipleship programs. The staff also cuts hair, offers counseling and advice, and teaches sports, English, and computer classes.

Sagrado Corazón (Sacred Heart), just on the other side of the wall of Rebirth, is a female detention center with about 20 girls, 13-18 years old. Orphan Helpers has two staff working in this center, offering daily devotionals, Bible studies, and counseling. Many of the girls from the Hogar Torrech have come out of this center.
