This year’s fundraising dinner raised more than $140,000! Nearly 500 guests with a heart for orphans filled the Hampton Roads Convention Center Ballroom Saturday, September 26, for the Orphan Helpers’ 5th Annual Harvest of Hope benefit dinner.
Guests enjoyed music performed by the All Nations Church Choir and were moved by this year’s featured speaker, Rob Mitchell, who grew up as an orphan. He captivated the crowd with his story from an inside perspective. Mitchell, who today is a Wells Fargo financial advisor, talked about his difficult childhood and how his experience resonates with the children we serve. “Hope helped me rise above my childhood and become whole emotionally, psychologically, socially, and spiritually.”
The audience was then inspired by a dramatic reading performed by a CNU theater student. Alex Cirves portrayed 13-year-old Marianna, a Honduran orphan who was sexually abused by her uncle.
Additionally, guests heard testimonials of four locals who have vested their time and their resources in Orphan Helpers.
Thanks to Bay Electric Co., Allen C. Tanner, Attorney at Law, American Maritime Holdings, and our 44 Table Sponsors and Hosts for making this event possible.
